With the development of socio-economic, industrialization and urbanization has led to a serious impact on the environment. Therefore, factors such as resources, climate change, ecosystems and biodiversity are increasingly concerned. This leads to the need for a management system for the sustainable development of environmental factors.
What is ISO 14001?.
In 1996, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) issued the ISO 14000 series of standards for environmental management. The purpose of the ISO 14000 series of standards is to achieve a unified application of the Environmental Management System (EMS) ) to ensure sustainable development. The ISO 14000 series of standards includes many standards:
ISO 14001 Environmental management systems – Requirements and guidance for use.
ISO 14004 Environmental management systems – General guidance on principles, systems and supporting techniques.
ISO 14006 Environmental management systems – Guidelines for incorporating eco-design.
ISO 14015 Environmental assessment of sites and organizations.
ISO 14020 (14.020 to 14.025) Environmental labels and declarations.
ISO 14030 Discussion of post-production environmental assessment.
ISO 14031 Assessment of the current state of the environment – Guidelines.
ISO 14040 (14040 to 14049) discusses pre-production planning and environmental goal setting.
ISO 14046 A set of guidelines and requirements for assessing the water content of products, processes, and organizations. Include only gas and soil emissions that affect water quality in the assessment.
The ISO 14000 series of standards has many standards, of which ISO 14001 is the central standard, setting out the environmental management system (EMS) criteria that an organization needs to meet. Today, certification bodies often certify ISO 14001 as proof of environmental protection.
The ISO 14001 standard has many versions. In 2015 a new version of ISO 14001:2015 was released to restructure the standard clauses to accommodate efforts to integrate with other management system standards such as ISO 9001. The ISO 14001:2015 standard will replace purely for the old version.
What is the content of ISO 14001?.
ISO 14001:2015 does not have specific requirements for other management systems, such as for quality, occupational health, safety, energy, financial management. However, this International Standard allows an organization to use risk-based management to integrate with other management systems.

Leadership: Top management must demonstrate leadership and commitment to respect the environmental management system.
Planability: The organization shall establish, implement and maintain the processes necessary to meet the requirements of ISO 14001.
Support: The organization shall determine and provide the necessary resources to establish, implement, maintain and continuously improve the environmental management system.
Governance: The organization shall establish, implement and control and maintain the processes necessary to meet the requirements of the environmental management system.
Performance Evaluation: An organization must monitor, analyze and evaluate its environmental performance.
Improvement: The organization shall identify opportunities for improvement and take necessary actions to achieve the intended results of the environmental management system.
